WORLD’S STRONGEST REDNECK’ TO START NASCAR ENGINES

Steve McGranahan Accepts Invitation to Serve as Memphis Grand Marshal on June 27

MEMPHIS, TN (June 16, 2009) – Track officials announced today that Steve McGranahan, the "World's Strongest Redneck," will serve as Grand Marshal of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series 'MemphisTravel.com 200 presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts' on Saturday, June 27, at Memphis Motorsports Park.

A series regular on CMT's "Country Fried Home Videos," McGranahan combines super-human strength and a riotous sense of humor to "make people laugh and encourage them to do more with the gifts that they have." At 6 feet tall and 370 pounds, the motivational strongman has run five marathons, holds the world record in one-handed card ripping (11 decks in 28 seconds), can slam dunk a basketball … and types 8 words a minute.

"The most important words a man can utter besides 'Honey, where's the remote?' is 'Gentlemen, START YOUR ENGINES!'" said McGranahan. "I'm excited about being the race Grand Marshal in Memphis and visiting with a bunch of my friends in the Truck Series garage. NASCAR trucks – it's the best 'pickup' line in sports."

The NASCAR Nation returns to Memphis on the final week in June for this annual summer showdown in the Bluff City. Gates open at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 27; qualifying begins at 1:00 p.m.; and the racers will take the green flag following McGranahan's "command" at 5:00 p.m.

Also included in the price of a ticket is the post-race Comcast Concert Series featuring country rockers KingBilly.
